History of July Mass Uprising Day

The July Mass Uprising of 2024 began as a student movement for reform of the government job quota system and swelled into a nationwide mass movement after a violent crackdown in mid-July in which hundreds of protesters were killed. Students and citizens across Bangladesh joined the movement, which came to demand accountability and change at the highest level.

On August 5, 2024, the movement reached its climax when the government of Sheikh Hasina fell and she left the country, ending more than fifteen years of rule.
