That is 22 holiday days. The 2026 gazette added executive-order days around both Eids and took the total to 26, so expect the final 2027 count to land somewhere near that once the government decides on Eid travel days.
Which dates can still move
Every row marked "moon" follows the Islamic lunar calendar. Bangladesh fixes those dates after the National Moon Sighting Committee meets, so a holiday can shift by one day either way. The dates above assume the usual pattern: one day after Saudi Arabia.
The two Durga Puja days depend on when Navami and Dashami tithis fall at sunrise in Dhaka. Buddha Purnima and Janmashtami are set the same way. These rarely move once the calendar year begins, but the gazette occasionally picks a neighbouring day.
Long weekends in 2027
Bangladesh has a Friday and Saturday weekend, so a holiday on a Thursday or Sunday gives three days off, and Eid usually gives more.
- Shab-e-Barat, 24 January (Sunday): Friday to Sunday, three days.
- Ekushey February, 21 February (Sunday): Friday to Sunday, three days.
- Eid-ul-Fitr, 10 to 12 March: Wednesday to Saturday, four days, and five if a Tuesday executive day is added.
- Independence Day, 26 March (Friday): falls on the weekend, so no extra day.
- Eid-ul-Adha, 17 to 19 May: Monday to Wednesday. Sunday 16 May is a working day, but if the government adds it as an executive-order day the break runs six days from Friday 14 May.
- July Mass Uprising Day, 5 August (Thursday): Thursday to Saturday, three days.
- Durga Puja, 8 to 9 October: falls on Friday and Saturday, so no working day is lost.
- Victory Day, 16 December (Thursday): Thursday to Saturday, three days.
Pohela Boishakh on Wednesday 14 April and Ashura on Wednesday 16 June are single midweek days.
How the 2027 list differs from 2026
Two national days keep the dates set in the 2026 gazette: July Mass Uprising Day on 5 August and Victory Day on 16 December. Eid-ul-Fitr moves from 21 March in 2026 to 10 March in 2027, and Eid-ul-Adha moves from 28 May to 17 May, because the Islamic year is about eleven days shorter than the solar year. Durga Puja moves earlier too, from 20 and 21 October to 8 and 9 October.
Holidays for schools and banks
School and college holidays follow a separate list from the Ministry of Education, and bank holidays follow Bangladesh Bank's circular. Both usually add a few days to the government list. Those lists are also published late in the year, and we will link them from the holiday page when they are out.
Bengali dates for 2027
If you plan by the Bengali calendar, 2027 spans two Bengali years. The first months belong to 1433 and the year changes to 1434 on 14 April.
