Sehri and iftar times for Dhaka
Fasting gets a little longer each day through the month as the days lengthen after winter.
| Day | Date | Sehri ends | Iftar |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Ramadan | Tuesday 9 February | 5:18 am | 5:52 pm |
| 15 Ramadan | Tuesday 23 February | 5:09 am | 6:00 pm |
| 29 Ramadan | Tuesday 9 March | 4:58 am | 6:07 pm |
The first fast is about 12 hours 34 minutes long and the last one about 13 hours 9 minutes. Islamic Foundation timetables for other districts add or subtract a few minutes from Dhaka; the Ramadan calendar page has every district and cities in India, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Why Bangladesh starts a day after Saudi Arabia
Bangladesh follows local moon sighting rather than the Umm al-Qura calendar. The new crescent is usually visible in Bangladesh one evening after it is seen in the Middle East, so Ramadan and both Eids fall a day later here in most years. Occasionally the moon is sighted on the same evening and the two countries align.
Ramadan 2027 in the Bengali calendar
Ramadan begins on 26 Magh 1433 and ends on 24 Falgun 1433, so the whole month sits in late winter and the first days of spring by the Bengali seasons. Eid-ul-Fitr on 10 March is 25 Falgun 1433.
Working hours and holidays
Government offices in Bangladesh usually run shorter hours during Ramadan, typically 9 am to 3:30 pm, announced by the Ministry of Public Administration a few days before the month starts. The public holidays in this period are Shab-e-Qadr on Sunday 7 March, Jumatul Wida on Friday 5 March, and the three Eid days from Wednesday 10 to Friday 12 March. See the 2027 holiday list post for the full year.
Ramadan in the following years
Because the Islamic year is about eleven days shorter than the solar year, Ramadan starts earlier each year. After 9 February 2027, expect the first fast around 29 January 2028 and 17 January 2029.
