How the date is fixed
Eid is the first day of Shawwal, and Shawwal begins when the new crescent is sighted. The National Moon Sighting Committee, chaired by the religious affairs adviser or minister, meets at the Islamic Foundation in Baitul Mukarram on the evening of 29 Ramadan. If the moon is reported anywhere in Bangladesh, Eid is the next day. If not, Ramadan completes 30 days and Eid is the day after.
For 2027 that means Eid on 10 March if the moon is seen on the evening of 9 March, or on Thursday 11 March if it is not. The dates on this page follow the usual pattern of Bangladesh being one day behind Saudi Arabia.
Holidays and the long break
The gazette normally grants three days for Eid-ul-Fitr: the day before, Eid day and the day after. If Eid is on 10 March, that gives Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 March, or the government may shift the block to 10 to 12 March to join it with the weekend. Either way, most offices will be closed from Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March until Saturday 13 March. In 2026 the government added extra executive-order days for Eid-ul-Adha, and it may do the same for Eid-ul-Fitr in 2027. The final list comes with the 2027 holiday gazette.
If Eid slips to 11 March, the break becomes Wednesday 10 to Saturday 13 March.
Eid in 2026 compared with 2027
Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 was on Saturday 21 March. In 2027 it comes eleven days earlier, on 10 March, because twelve lunar months add up to about 354 days. Eid-ul-Adha 2027 is expected on Monday 17 May, about ten weeks after Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid prayer times in Dhaka
The main Eid jamaat at the National Eidgah is usually at 8:30 am, with the first jamaat at Baitul Mukarram at 7:00 am and later ones through the morning. Times are announced by the Islamic Foundation in the last week of Ramadan.
